Echoes of Gold

Echoes of Gold depicts a cowboy stepping into an abandoned gold mine. Is he just passing through? Searching for something—or someone? His raised gun suggests that whatever his purpose, he is on high alert.
I chose an unusual perspective, placing the viewer behind the cowboy, seeing what he sees—yet remaining just outside his awareness. This reinforces the tension of the scene. Someone could be watching him, hidden among the remains of the old mine, just as we are.
I had a lot of fun painting the weathered structures, aged textures, and scattered details. I wanted the viewer to engage with the space, scanning the surroundings just as the cowboy does. This sense of participation pulls the viewer into the story, making them part of the unfolding moment.
This piece is framed in a high-end, hand-carved, gold-leafed frame by Mayen Olson (CA).
